Abubakar Atiq Durrani has been awarded the UOREF Grant, whose goals were to research the “Biomechanical Regulation of Postnatal Skeletal Growth.” In addition, Abubakar Atiq Durrani has received the Cancer Free Kids Grant to study the “Tumor Tissue Banking Project.” CCHMC’s Department of Surgery awarded Abubakar Atiq Durrani the Clinical Opportunities Grant for “Regulation of Skeletal Growth Plate” research. As well, the Musculoskeletal Oncology Center Research Foundation funded an additional Clinical Opportunities Grant for Abubakar Atiq Durrani.

 

The University of Cincinnati Orthopedic Education and Research Fund selected Abubakar Atiq Durrani to fund his research on “Local Biochemical Regulation of Physical Growth in a Rat Model.” And lastly, the corporation Johnson and Johnson has awarded Abubakar Atiq Durrani the Corporate Research Grant to fund research for “Biological Correction of Spinal Deformity without a Spinal Fusion.” These grants and funds have all contributed to the success and development of Abubakar Atiq Durrani’s career over the years.

Abubakar Atiq Durrani has also studied immensely Musculoskeletal Oncology-related projects and minimally invasive surgery in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis projects. In addition, Abubakar Atiq Durrani has researched the minimally invasive surgery lumbar fusion projects that focus on the study of the efficacy of MIS techniques for lumbar fusion, including axial lumbar interbody fusion and direct lateral interbody fusion. Abubakar Atiq Durrani has also analyzed complications, patient outcomes, operative data and fusion rates among AxiaLIF and DLIF patients with breakthroughs in this field.

Fellowship: Abubakar Atiq Durrani

Throughout his educational career, Abubakar Atiq Durrani has proved himself an excellent student and skilled doctor. After successfully completing his secondary school education and pre-medical schooling, Abubakar Atiq Durrani set out to become a doctor in medical school. Abubakar Atiq Durrani is a graduate of the Army Medical College at Quaid-e-Azam International University in Islamabad, Pakistan. Abubakar Atiq Durrani received his degree in 1991 after he passed his MBBS examinations. Following his graduation, Abubakar Atiq Durrani moved to the United States where he was certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners to become a licensed MD.

 

Once in the United States, Abubakar Atiq Durrani began his post-graduate training with the University of Cincinnati’s Orthopedic Residency Training Program. After Abubakar Atiq Durrani completed his residency in 2003, he went on to specialize his education through fellowships throughout the country and in Great Britain. Abubakar Atiq Durrani began his specialized training in 1996 in Middlesex, England. There, Abubakar Atiq Durrani worked in the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital working in Orthopedic Oncology. In 1997, at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, Abubakar Atiq Durrani specialized in a fellowship working on infantile spinal deformities.

 

In July of 1997 to June of 1998, Abubakar Atiq Durrani worked and trained with a fellowship on Pediatric Orthopedics at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Shortly after that fellowship, Abubakar Atiq Durrani moved from Ohio to Texas where he trained at the University of Florida’s Medical Center in Gainesville on a fellowship program for orthopedic oncology. Abubakar Atiq Durrani’s final fellowship was as the Leatherman Spine institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky training in spinal surgery from 2003 to 2004.
